Robin Bond Co-Hosts "Money Matters" TV
In a recent episode of Money Matters TV, host Doug Hepburn welcomed Robin Bond, author of "How to Negotiate a Killer Job Offer," as a co-host. Robin discussed recent pivotal changes in employment law and finance. The conversation included discussion of the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) recent game-changing regulations regarding non-solicitation, non-compete agreements.
Although the federal courts have currently stayed implementation of the non-compete regulations, Robin explained how the regulations, if enacted, would mark a significant shift within the workforce by excluding most employees, with the exception of senior executives, from such agreements. Robin emphasized the importance of fair negotiation, and cautioned against the negative effects overly restrictive clauses can have on an employee’s career mobility and financial stability.
During the segment, Robin also answered a viewer’s question regarding the intricacies around federal overtime regulations under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. The Fair Labor Standards Act states that employees are entitled to overtime pay (at time and a half) for hours worked (that are over 40 hours per work week), with exceptions based on job role and title. While responding to the viewer’s question, Robin also highlighted the complexities of wage laws and underscored the importance of understanding one's rights in the workplace.
Robin and Doug also interviewed a commercial banker to explore creative ways to obtain financing if you want to start your own business.
